Risks and informed decision-making

This information is provided for educational purposes, to help you make an informed decision about rhinoplasty. Rhinoplasty is a technically demanding procedure, and the decision to proceed should be considered carefully.

Possible risks

As with any surgery, rhinoplasty carries risks. These include, but are not limited to:
  • Scarring, infection, and bleeding
  • Excessive bruising
  • Septal perforation
  • Numbness or altered sensation
  • Loss of sense of smell
  • Skin changes, including telangiectasia
  • Asymmetry
  • An unsatisfactory aesthetic outcome
  • The possibility of requiring revision surgery
No surgeon can guarantee a specific result, and healing and final results vary between individuals.

Your wellbeing matters

Rhinoplasty can have a meaningful impact on confidence and wellbeing, but it’s important to have realistic expectations about what surgery can achieve. If you’re affected by anxiety, body image concerns, or other mental health difficulties, it’s important these are addressed with the appropriate healthcare professionals. Mr Ranganathan may recommend this as part of your assessment before proceeding with surgery.
Every consultation includes an open discussion of the risks, limitations, and realistic outcomes relevant to your individual case.
