Cosmetic Rhinoplasty
Balancing Form and Function Through Expert Nose Surgery
Cosmetic Rhinoplasty — often referred to as a “nose job” — is a surgical procedure designed to reshape and refine the nose, bringing it into greater harmony with your overall facial features. It is one of the most technically demanding and artistically nuanced procedures in facial plastic surgery.
At the Manchester Rhinoplasty Clinic, we understand that the decision to change your nose is deeply personal. Our aim is never to give you a “new” nose — it is to give you the best version of your own nose.

Common Concerns We Address
Patients seek cosmetic rhinoplasty for a wide range of concerns, including:
- A prominent nasal hump or bump on the bridge
- A deviated or crooked nose affecting facial symmetry
- A drooping or over-projected nasal tip
- A wide, bulbous, or boxy tip that appears disproportionate
- A nose that feels too large or too small for the face
- Nostrils that are wide, asymmetric, or flared
- An overall imbalance between the nose and other facial features
Open vs. Closed Rhinoplasty — Which Is Used?

Open Rhinoplasty
(Mr Ranganathan's Preferred Approach — 80%+ of cases)
- A small incision across the columella (the skin strip between the nostrils)
- Full exposure of the nasal framework for precise modification
- Ideal for complex cases, significant reshaping, or revision surgery
- Scar is tiny, well-hidden, and fades significantly over 6–12 months

Closed Rhinoplasty
(Selected Cases)
- All incisions placed inside the nostrils — no visible external scar
- Suitable for minor to moderate reshaping with limited structural change
- Slightly faster initial recovery and less early swelling
- Limited access compared to open technique
What Can Realistically Be Achieved?
Mr Ranganathan will recommend the most appropriate technique for your individual anatomy and goals at consultation.
Frequently Asked Questions
Am I a good candidate for cosmetic rhinoplasty?
You may be a good candidate if you have specific, identifiable concerns about the shape or appearance of your nose, have realistic expectations about improvement (not perfection), are in good physical and mental health, and are emotionally ready for a permanent change. Mr Ranganathan will assess your suitability carefully during your consultation and be honest with you if surgery is not in your best interest.
Will the results look natural, or will people be able to tell I've had surgery?
A core principle of Mr Ranganathan’s surgical philosophy is that results should enhance — not transform. The goal is for people to say ‘you look great’, not ‘you’ve had something done’. Natural, harmonious results are achieved by carefully analysing your full facial anatomy and creating changes proportionate to your individual features.
How long does the surgery take?
Most cosmetic rhinoplasty procedures take between 2 and 3 hours under general anaesthesia. It is typically performed as a day case, so you will go home the same day once you have been reviewed and are comfortable.
How long will I need off work?
Most patients return to desk or office-based work after 10–14 days. If your role involves physical activity or public-facing contact, you may wish to allow up to 3 weeks. Heavy exercise and contact sport should be avoided for at least 6 weeks.
Will I have a visible scar?
In open rhinoplasty, a very fine scar is placed across the underside of the columella. It is well-concealed in shadow and typically fades to a barely visible line over 6–12 months. In closed rhinoplasty, there is no external scar at all.
Can I see before-and-after photos before deciding?
Yes. Mr Ranganathan will show you relevant before-and-after images from his own surgical practice during consultation — particularly cases that match your own concerns and anatomy. A gallery is also available on the website.
